Web/Digital Designer

Position Overview:

Convergent Science is an innovative, rapidly growing software company in the engineering simulation market. We are seeking a creative and skilled Web/Digital Designer to join our team. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of digital design principles and is proficient in creating engaging visuals for B2B audiences. You will enhance our online presence, maintain brand consistency, and deliver high-quality designs across various digital platforms.

Your mission is to translate complex engineering concepts into clear, engaging, and visually appealing web experiences that resonate with our audiences. This role requires a blend of creativity, web development skills, and a deep understanding of modern web design principles and technologies. Under the direction of the Creative Team Lead and in collaboration with our Web Development Team, you will lead the design and implementation of website features, ensuring they align with our campaigns and digital strategy.

We are a skilled and dedicated team within a larger global engineering firm. While our content is often highly technical, the Creative Operations team (part of the larger Marketing team) is responsible for converting that content into award-winning design and marketing pieces that inspire our existing customers and engage potential clients. Our team is based in Madison, Wisconsin, and collaborates regularly with coworkers in our other offices in Detroit, Houston; Linz, Austria; and Pune, India. Thus, our ideal candidate must be excellent at both verbal and visual communication and be comfortable collaborating virtually with a geographically diverse team.

This is a full-time, in-person position at our headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design and production of on-brand creative solutions for a variety of digital materials and web properties
  • Create websites and pages that use text, photos, graphics, and video clips; create website graphics, including banners, icons, and buttons
  • Determine the layout, color palette, font set, navigational elements, and visual themes of websites
  • Maintain brand guidelines for color palettes, typography, and imagery across all designs and platforms
  • Prioritize usability by ensuring the websites are accessible and easy to use
  • Optimize websites for speed and ease of use
  • Collaborate with developers to ensure proper integration
  • Incorporate SEO best practices into websites

Additional Opportunities:

  • Create motion graphic elements and infographic pieces
  • Assist with with maintenance of social media channels
  • Design digital ads and banners
  • Design and production assistance on Creative Operations team projects and projects from other teams, company-wide

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in design software (Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Sketch, etc.)
  • Strong aesthetic sense and expertise in digital design principles, including typography and color theory
  • Experience with responsive design and web design standards
  • Understanding of UX/UI design
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices
  • Familiarity with content management systems (WordPress, etc.)
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and motion graphics
  • Experience with branding and corporate marketing
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts visually and effectively
  • Ability to present design concepts to stakeholders and receive feedback
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work well collaboratively and independently
  • Portfolio showcasing digital design work

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, web design, or a related field
  • 3 years of experience in web/digital design
